STARTING WEIGHT THIS WEEK – 389lbs

Week 3 here we go. As this goes on it is very exhausting. I’m used to more food and to be honest I’ve had enough. Losing weight is difficult at any age but in your 40’s is a whole different ball game. I’ve always heard that it was more difficult and let me tell you it is ! After the age of 40 people naturally lose muscle. Now because muscle burns more calories than fat does, this can slow down your metabolism and make it harder to shake those stubborn pounds. So in reality you put more fat on and the fatter you get, the less muscle you have. Which in turn makes it even harder to shed the pounds because fat burns less calories. It’s a vicious cycle that gets harder and harder the heavier you become. So I need to pick up the weights this week and start.

Today is my 21/90 day I spoke about this in my other blog (part II) so I won’t dive into it here but basically it’s simple enough to understand , commit to a personal or professional goal or anything that you want to accomplish for 21 straight days. Then after the 21 days, the pursuit of that goal should have become a habit. Once you've established that habit, you continue to do it for another 90 days then it’s in your brain to stay. So this should be habit lodged in my brain. Well if it is I don’t know where I put it. Still feels gruelling to me.

I started a progressive push-up challenge of Ferdi’s this week , read about it HERE . Basically start on November 1 and do 10 push-ups and then add 1 push up each day till the end of the year . So today we are on 18 push ups, I have to do it in 2 sets of 9. Push-ups are a great total body exercise. Also this week Ferdi gave me a stair climbing challenge, 280 flights of stairs 🥺. Is he trying to kill this old guy? Fourty flights per day. Well odds were in my favour this week as I had a job on the 2nd floor of a building with no elevator. Not that I would wish this on anyone. Hauling all tools up the stairs, all the material up, garbage down. I nearly died or wished it a few times. Pretty sure FML came out of my lips once per hour.

up ... down ... up ... down ... up ... down ... up ... down ... up ...

Well I crushed that Challenge like the King Kong that I am 344 flights climbed. I felt like Mario in Donkey Kong climbing all those stairs.

And that’s we’re good news stops, I still haven’t had a chance to cook Ferdi’s leek banana dish. The dish looks really appealing to me, I’m excited to try it. We ate out twice this week. My choices were good but I did have fries 🍟. That choice was not the best but damn it I wanted fries 😂. If I had to pick one thing to eat forever it would be potatoes, hands down . So many choices with this veggie. This week I said I was going to start exercising more and other than the stairs, which is a great feat on its own, I didn’t start exercising any more. But I guess looking at it now as I type this, the stairs was a pretty big win. So I’ll take that.

So Ferdi your challenge this week is sit ups, I want you to do 200. A little under 30 a day . You can do it man 💪🏻

HEALTHY FOOD !!!

NOT THE EATING IT PART.......

BUT......

THE BUYING IT PART 💰 !!!!

WHY does healthy food cost so much? 🤬 I mean junk food and fattening food is WAY cheaper than fruits, veggies and healthy options. Are we all doomed to be unhealthy and over weight unless you can afford the healthy options ???

I recently read an article that said eating healthy costs only $1.50 a day per person more than eating poorly. Seems affordable but, a family of 4 would be $2000 a year just to take care of their bodies. Ok.... Ok .... I truly beg to differ that it only costs an extra $42 a week per family of 4. A week ago I starting my diet .... scratch that – healthy life style change. The cost of food is crazy and it definitely costs substantial more to love your body.... And that my friends is BULLSHIT

I mean, I get it ... healthy food takes more love and attention to produce or grow if you will. It’s not some over processed and preservative filled garbage. I understand that, but still ....

It’s pretty hard to eat healthy when it’s so cheap to eat unhealthy.

Maybe this is why obesity rates keep rising ? Among other reasons I do believe people can’t afford it. You might ask, Who can afford to eat healthy? Well I ask , what’s your life worth ?

Can you not afford to eat healthy?

STARTING WEIGHT THIS WEEK – 397 lbs

Another week done in my diet world, sorry LIFE STYLE CHANGE. This week was a crazy work week, I normally would have had fast food many of the days. I still found my self being very careful with my food choices. I didn’t change my exercise routine or to better describe it, I haven’t begun to exercise as my exercise routine was non existent. The week started slow, with maybe a ½ lbs a day weightloss. After last weeks 16 lb drop I was kind of disappointed to be honest. I thought another 16 lbs lost this week would suit me just fine. Not gonna happen, sadly it’s now Wednesday and I’ve only lost 2.5 pounds .. humm, well that sucks. Still I soldier on and keep restricted on my food choices as it’s not about the amount I’m losing per week it’s my over all goal.

Small goals lead to big results, If I can lose only 3 lbs a week the entire way through this, then in 1 year I’ve lost over 150 lbs. That seems like a damn good goal to me and I like where it’s headed.

Well it’s Saturday, Halloween. The night is planned filled with dinner, movies at home and eating lots of candies. Everything was great. We had an amazing steak dinner and watched Friday the 13th, always a classic and great watch. The only thing my night was missing was candies n chips. Well I did sneak 1 Halloween sized coffee crisp... shhhh 🤫. I just love my snacks, it is the one thing I really miss.

I really find, It’s getting harder and I’m only on day 11 so technically 10 more days till it’s embedded in my brain as a habit. There is an old rule of 21/90. This rule is simple enough to understand , commit to a personal or professional goal or anything that you want to accomplish for 21 straight days. Then after the 21 days, the pursuit of that goal should have become a habit. Once you've established that habit, you continue to do it for another 90 days then it’s in your brain to stay. Don’t get discouraged if it takes longer, it could take 21-250 days for a new behaviour to become a new habit to become automatic or habitual in nature.

As with life I truly believe anything is with in your grasp if you have a positive attitude. Your attitude will give you anything you want, your life will also reflect your attitude. Have a negitive attitude and you guessed it, your life will be negative or have a negative spin to it. Positive attitude costs you nothing. It’s free.

Mindset is big in any goals you try to achieve and weight loss is no different. You have to want it, blindly trying some diet and thinking you’ll magically follow through is ludicrous. You have to want it to succeed.

Unfortunately I did fail this week on my Ferdi challenge. I was so busy I didn’t get a chance to cook. Plus I’m not much of a cook lol but I really want to try this recipe so I’m going to try it this week. My challenge to you this week Ferdi is pick one of Cintia’s amazing dishes and make that for a family dinner. Her food is always so fresh and healthy. Beaver lumber back in its day was a nice little hardware store in Canada. Founded in 1906 it was our fourth largest building supply store, at one time it was the largest supplier of lumber. They had all the essential materials to fix or build just about anything. Molson Canadian or Molson, the Montreal-based brewing giant, bought Beaver Lumber for $40 million in 1972. A brewery owned a lumber yard ? Now that’s diversification but, In the year 2000 Beaver Lumber was acquired by the chain to Home Hardware for $68 million in 1999.

As a child I remember going to Beaver Lumber with my parents to pick up paint and other building materials for projects around our house, of which I had zero involvement as I was pretty young. Around the age of 3 where this particular story takes a crappy turn. I was quite the handful as a toddler, or so I was told I’m still waiting for the iPhone footage for confirmation. Oh? So no footage ? Sorry in that case I don’t believe you.

Except that I was told by almost every aunt and uncle that I was a terror, into everything all the time and constantly had to be watched or I would find something to occupy my attention. So as we wandered the Beaver Lumber I felt a Poo coming on.

“Mom? I have to poo” I said. My mom choosing a paint color with her preoccupied voice said “yes, little Gordie right away”

Well my mind already started to wander and look for something to do. I walked away and started to play with the hammers and screw drivers. Then I noticed the washrooms so I decided I’d go, after all I’m a big boy now. I pull my pants down and jump on the toilet. I hear my mom shouting for me.

“ I’m just poopin, like a big boy” I shout back.

She comes flying around the corner “what are you doing ???”

“Poopin” I sheepishly reply

“HOLY SHHH$&#%%@&$“

She gasps

And....... that’s the last time we went to that location of Beaver Lumber. She grabbed my hand and we ran out of the store.

Today is a different kind of Shop Saturday. Don’t worry there’s still a video guys n gals. Just taking a moment to talk about cancer awareness and about Movember, which is tomorrow. I’m sure you have all heard of Movember. Guys grow a moustache to raise money for a variety of things, now everyone assumes that it is just prostate cancer and testicular cancer. One of the most important and less talked about reasons is mental health and suicide prevention. Guys never talk about mental health or mental illness. I think in a mans world, some would attribute that to a weakness and men aren’t weak. WE ARE TOUGH AS NAILS !

WELL F%#@ THAT!

We are human and have stress just like anyone else. Our mental health needs attention as well. Sadly in most cases you only find out about how depressed your man , your friend , your father is when suicide gets in the picture. Men are almost 4X more likely to commit suicide over a women.

GUYS, DONT HOLD IT IN. TALK TO SOMEONE. IVE HAD A FEW FRIENDS WHO TOOK THERE OWN LIFE AND FROM THE OUTSIDE YOU NEVER SEE IT COMING. YOU THINK YOU WOULD.... BUT MOST CASES YOU NEVER DO.

We can’t be tough and strong all the time, I posted this awhile back on twitter and it sums it up in a nutshell....

These cancers just keep on taking people every year, it’s a horrible disease and anyone that has had Cancer or been involved with a friend or loved ones battle knows exactly what I’m talking about.

1 IN 9 MEN WILL BE DIAGNOSED WITH PROSTATE CANCER IN THEIR LIFETIME.

ONE in NINE guys!! 10% chance of having prostate cancer, pick a doctor with small slender fingers and go get checked. Jokes aside, GO! Prostate Cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer, over 1.3 million people a year find out they have it. And if caught early it has a very high survivable rate of nearly 100%. EARLY DETECTION is always key. Testicular Cancer strikes at all ages but can strike young and also has a high survival rate.

TESTICULAR CANCER IS THE MOST COMMON CANCER IN YOUNG MEN

So for November I’ve joined the Movember movement. Movember is the leading charity in men heath and awareness to these less talked about issues. Here is a link to my Movember DONATE personal donation page on the Movember site, all money goes directly to them. If you want to give to the cause, every dollar helps. By 2030 they would like to cut the death rate by 25% Big goals but it’s also a big problem. So let’s see what we can do to help them along to achieve that goal.

Well as you all know I have a full beard, this skin has not seen the light of day in 10 years. Before that I always had a goatee. So really I’m 25 plus years I’ve always had facial hair. Now Lee is against this, not the raising money part or awareness she is all for anything to do with cancer fundraising. She’s just against the me shaving part. CANCER !!! Screw you cancer, I hate you. You hurt so many great people and wonderful families... You suck. NINE years ago today you took the most amazing women from this earth, my mom, because God needed her home. Well I’m being selfish now and I was then, I still wanted her here with me and Cancer stole her.

Not a day goes by that I dont think of her and wish I could talk to her just one more time ... When she was dying, I begged god to take some of my time that I had left and give it to her.

Love your family and friends while they are here with us, say it to them. Let them know how special they are to you. Show it. Tell them. Make sure they know. Cancer robbed me of years with my mom and to that I raise both middle fingers in the air and say ... well you can imagine what I’d say....

Something along the lines of FUCK YOU CANCER !!! EFFFF YOU

ONE WEEK UPDATE ! First day of the diet was 1 week ago, last Monday and here goes nothing. I’ve had more water then I think I’ve ever had, I feel like I’m Nemo... just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. I’ve never drank a lot of water before, fluids yes but water no. So water is a real change for me. How can I weigh my self??? Being a large individual, like really large, it’s hard to get weighed. I found a solution to my scale dilemma, slide two scales together at bed bath and beyond 😝 ... I was happy with the results as I thought I was WAY heavier. If I was a betting man I would of thought 500lbs minimum more like 550 lbs

I’ll take it ! 413 lbs starting weight. It’s now 500 pm on Monday and I’m starving. I could eat that whole chicken to my self for supper but it’s shared between the 4 of us. Supper was fantastic but it’s now 700 pm and I’m hungry, grumpy and irritable. God I’m on edge, I need food but I hold my ground. Now it’s 900pm and you guessed it ... IM HUNGRY AS HELL. I’m looking forward to Tuesday night. It’s our Anniversary and Lee and I are going out for dinner, it’s nice to get alone time with her 😊 if you missed our anniversary blog HERE

I miss the freedom of eating as I wish, doing what I want... but that life style isn’t sustainable. I miss bagels, like really miss them. It’s our anniversary tonight ( Tuesday ) and we are going to the Keg Steakhouse. I know I won’t be 100% good but it is a celebration so gotta cheat on day 2 already. Supper was amazing with the momma. That night I lie in bed and ponder how much I’ll be able to lose ? I bought a scale and it only goes to 400 lbs so I’m hoping by next Mondsy morning I’m down to under 400, other wise I will need to go to BB&B to jump on 2 scales again.

Let me talk about the addiction side of food for a minute. Someone who has not been overweight and hasn’t had to lose it, can’t say a word to how hard this is. It’s gruelling. The hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, I feel like I’m going through with drawls or coming down from drugs. Now I’m not an emotional eater, I’m a “I love food eater” food is delicious and I love it and enjoy the flavours. Others may use food as a crutch, anxiety/depression and over eating have a close relationship. It makes you feel better to eat your favourite foods. Then when you over eat, you stretch your stomach and then it takes more food to get you full.

ITS A VICIOUS CIRCLE !!!!

Ive heard many people negatively talk about others weight behind there backs. Heard it right from other people’s mouths before and I’m not perfect either sadly I’ve done it as well. I haven’t heard talk about me but when speaking about other over weight individuals. Although, I’m 100% sure it’s said behind my back as well.

“Just stop eating”

“Eat something healthy”

“Get off your ass and exercise”

“They must be really lazy to be so big and fat”

We need to spread positivity, the world has enough negativity (especially in crazy 2020) . It’s an addiction, As with any addiction, addressing the reason is the first step to a start to recovery

Ferdi @xrptwin and I have friendly little challenge between us, to keep us motivated and focused I guess you could say. His challenge to me was to walk, run or crawl 30 km this week and here is my kilometres walked tally. Now these numbers are my daily numbers, I’ve not tried to walk anymore or less.

October 19 2020 – 3.9 km walked

October 20 2020 – 5.1 km walked

October 21 2020 – 6.8 km walked

October 22 2020 – 4.3 km walked

October 23 2020 – 5.9 km walked

October 24 2020 – 3.8 km walked

October 25 2020 – 6.7 km walked

36.5 KILOMETRES WALKED!

Today on this wonderful winter day I’m going to be installing the vinyl plank desk top on my previous build. Vinyl plank flooring comes in many styles and colours. It is and EXCELLENT product for basement floors and great for going over existing hard surface floor aswell. One piece of advice get the square edge vinyl plank ( VP) , the interlocking kind is very tough to replace a strip if you need too from damage. If you buy the square edge like in my video then it just lifts out and you place another piece in its place.

And now my absolute favourite vinyl plank look. A 12”x24” tile looking plank that you install with a grout joint and then you grout it just like tile😱

As you can see I kind of like vinyl plank. So it makes perfect sense for me to think of other uses for it, like a table top. If you missed part 1 of the desk build you can see it HERE

We got the desk built, holes patched and 2 coats of paint. Thats were I left you after last Saturday’s show. Today we will finish it up and cut and install the plank top. Let’s go do that.
